Best Columbus Crew Betting Predictions
One thing about Columbus Crew SC betting is pretty clear: they won’t take the MLS Championship this year. So forget about putting money on them in the outright MLS Cup Winner bets. It might be even worse – it’s still questionable if they will even make it to the playoffs. As you know, 7 teams from each conference qualify for the playoffs at the end of the regular season. So far, Columbus Crew is not doing great.
You have better chances of making money off your wagers if you bet on games results using the spread. However, in some cases, you can safely bet on the Crew winning the game using moneyline.
In case these terms are confusing, a short explanation. The spread gives an advantage to the underdog. It does so by correcting the game’s final score by adding a few points to the goals scored by the weaker team and subtracting points from the favorite. This mechanism allows you to safely bet on the underdog – the team doesn’t have to win the game for you to win money.
With moneyline, you bet on who is going to win or lose. Nothing complicated. If you want to put your money on the Crew SC using moneyline bet, you need to pick a game in which they actually have a chance to win. It doesn’t mean the bookmakers have to favor the Crew. But the odds are an important indication of possible results. For example, the moneyline odds show that bookmakers favor the Columbus team in one of their last games of the regular season of 2019. If you put your money in that game on the Crew, your bet will be less risky, but also less profitable.
History of Columbus Crew SC
If there is a team you want to put your money on, you’ve got to start by learning basic information about their history, performance and individual players. This short overview will help you prepare your Columbus Crew betting strategy.
In 1994, Major League Soccer was still in its very early stages of growth and in the process of deciding which cities would get their own soccer teams to play in the new league. Columbus, Ohio was among the first ten teams. They were founded in 1994, but they played their first game two years later. In 1999, the Columbus Crew Stadium was opened, and what’s interesting – it was the first stadium in the United States designed specifically for soccer games.
In 2017, a controversy surrounding the team broke out. The owner at the time of the Crew wanted to move the team from Columbus to Austin, Texas. Fans protested the owner changed and with the help of the MLS, the team stayed put. Instead, Austin got its own soccer team which is currently under expansion.
The Crew won nearly all their trophies between 2002 and 2009. In 2002, the team from Columbus won the U.S Open Cup. In 2004, 2008 and 2009 they won the Supporter’s Shield, and finally in 2008 – the MLS Cup. After a few not-so-great seasons, it seems the team is on the rise again. In 2015, the Crew SC played in the MLS Cup Finals.
Among the most famous players of the team are two Argentinians: Guillermo Barros Schelotto and Federico Higuain. Schelotto won MLS MVP and was with the team when they took the big trophies between 2007 and 2010. Higuain joined the Crew SC in 2012 and immediately won the MLS Newcomer of the Year award.
Kei Kamara is also among the well-known names of the Crew SC. He scored 100 goals in his 300 MLS appearances, an achievement shared by only nine other players in the league. Not only is he a great player, but also a recipient of the MLS Humanitarian of the Year Award. He played with the Columbus Crew between 2006-2007 and 2016-2017.
